Nail techs - misinformation is rife in the nail industry & I’m the latest victim! Here’s Part 2 of this series, where I clear up rumours and gossip being spread through the industry about myself and Method Mani-Science 😶 (I seriously cannot even believe I’m having to do this 😂💀 but needs must!).

Here’s the truth… 😳

@shardilly.nails asked another amazing question! The reply was too long to use the ‘reply to a comment with a reel trick’ - but hopefully this helps answer this concern!

Each client is completely different and should be assessed based on their prior exposure, potential symptom history plus so much more.

Currently, we’re applying gel nail products on clients without taking their exposure history - leaving nail techs wide open to potentially being sued or invalidating their insurance, even if we’ve done everything right. Why? - because we’re not outlining the risks to clients or taking informed consent.

In a case where a client has not had a medically diagnosed allergy to gel nail products or a specific ingredient, and the nail tech hasn’t seen nail changes plus the nails are healthy at the time of appointment, there’s absolutely no concrete evidence that the client actually has an allergy to gel nail products - remember, nail techs or clients definitely can’t diagnose allergies.

So what do we do? A full gel nail treatment could be considered risky, but could it technically still be undertaken? Potentially. Would this be a safe option? Absolutely not.

Would: (1) applying the gel to a small area during a nail sensitivity test to see how the clients body reacts, (2) giving the client clear aftercare guidance on what to look out for, and an emergency contact number should any symptoms present, so the product can be removed as quickly as possible, (3) sending the client to a doctor for testing and a diagnosis, be a better choice? Yes. And this is exactly how other patch tests work in the beauty industry.

If there is a clear indication of multiple symptoms all matching allergic reactions, along with high exposure to gel nail products, particularly if the clients used these products at home or mixed products etc. then of course, your professional judgement would step in and think, maybe this isn’t a good candidate. Each client is different but overall, insurances will likely see this as a precaution to prevent harm to your client, rather than reckless treatment.

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR EU CUSTOMERS

It is with regret that we inform all EU customers, that from the 10th of December we will no longer be shipping our printed products to any EU member states. This includes our cards, course handbooks and printed certificates. This is due to the new EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) - which requires all products made outside the EU entering onto the EU market to have a paid, assigned dedicated person within the EU to ensure products comply with this regulation, amongst other documentation. This includes all printed products, including cards and books.

Whilst our products are safe, being made UK, and only using paper, toner and other materials purchased within the UK, as a sole trader business, this is not financially viable to undertake these measurements currently. Our online courses are still going to be available however any printed materials accompanying courses will not be provided to addresses outside the UK.
